Fall Apples Blended

Fall brings out so many memories. Growing up in Alberta, Canada there was so much to see during the Fall. The brilliance of changing leaves is something to behold. Our family’s first house had a lovely crab apple tree in the back yard that my Sister and I would devour no matter how sour the small apples were. Of course, there was always apple pie, apple crumble on vanilla ice cream or apple turnovers and tarts.  Fall is the season for apples!

My daughter’s school began the year off at their farm making apple cider from scratch. With this in mind, we decided to create a lovely breakfast smoothie that could compliment the abundance of fresh apples this month.

Sweet Apple Oat Smoothie

¾ cup of Almond Milk

¼ cup of apple cider or apple juice (slightly less than ¼ cup is best)

½ Frozen banana

½ Apple (pink lady or Fuji work best for sweetness)

1 ½  TBSP Organic Rolled Oats

¼ TSP Vanilla Extract

¼ TSP freshly ground Flax Seeds

½ TBSP Unsweetened Vanilla Protein Powder

½ TSP Cinnamon

freshly grated nutmeg

Put ingredients in a blender and mix at top speed until smooth.  If you prefer things on the sweeter side, you can add more protein powder and a bit of agave sweetener but the bananas and cider really tend to make this just sweet enough.

Enjoy!
