Maria Sarno

“There’s no place like home.” There is a certain relief that comes from being in your own space…surrounded by the things that make you  comfortable. The place where you belong. One such eclectic abode that embodies one’s personality so completely is that of artist Maria Sarno. Maria creates functional, decorative pieces from a range of different mediums such as fabric, paper and leather. She possesses the natural talent and vision to create something spontaneously from whatever presents itself to her at any given time. These creations are one of a kind, lovingly made and wholly unique. She’s also been known for her costuming work & original wedding dress creations, just to name a few.

Nestled in the heart of Los Feliz, California, Maria’s home has an old world style that you could easily imagine hidden along a cobblestone laneway in Italy or New York. She’s been collecting religious objects for years, something she admits being drawn to (perhaps subconsciously from her Catholic upbringing). Her home is filled with little vignettes comprised of objects that range from made, found or repurposed items. Each piece is carefully placed in a perfect little world where it resides for the remaining time it has left on Earth. You can’t walk into this space without being drawn to the multitude of little stories that are silently being told right before you.

  • Great article about a great and creative person. Being in her workspace is an adventure just in its own. Having been fortunate enough to not only know her (and the Sarno clan) for many many years, I was one of the lucky ones that got one of Marias wedding dress masterpieces! Can’t wait to see the relaunch of the website Maria! Xoxox melissa
