Samara’s Bourbon Cider Cocktail

If the Polar Vortex is keeping you indoors, you’re over the hot toddy mixes and longing for something more refreshing but keeping a bit of that warmth, this drink is the one for you!

One of the best parts of winter is all the fruits and vegetables that are at their peek. This drink, highlighting apples, was a party favorite over the holidays, especially for those not inclined to wet their whistles with just wine. For celebrations, it’s always great to have one signature drink for friends to keep from having to become mixologist at your own event, this one was an easy make and a huge hit. Luckily the recipe, from our friend Samara Caughey – owner of The Purple Twig in Eagle Rock, came with a bottle of fresh boiled cider that was already created.  Keep it cool with King Ice Cubes from Tovolo!

This drink still has the warmth of bourbon while adding a refreshing aspect that can take this drink from winter to summer.

Samara’s Bourbon Cider Cocktail Recipe

3 oz Bourbon or Whiskey (we used Black Hill Maple Kentucky Bourbon)

2 oz Boiled Apple Cider *

Juice of 1 lemon

Cup of Sparkling Water

Serve over ice.

[ Makes enough for approximately 4 drinks. ]

*note:  Boiled cider is just fresh pressed apple cider boiled down to a thick syrup.  It’s easy to do if you have the time, if not, you can substitute bought boiled cider, just look for something without added sugar like Wood’s Boiled Cider.
