Dogs

Last Saturday the New York Times published an article entitled Dogs Are People, Too in theIR opinion PAGES. It was a fantastic piece on how they have trained dogs to sit still in an M.R.I. machine long enough to be able to test their brains in comparison to humans. The study indicates that dogs seemingly have emotions, just like us. One funny thing i noticed is that over the course of the day, the article became widely shared on Facebook tagged with comments like: “I knew it!” or “Yep, been telling friends that for years.” If you’re a “dog person,” you’ll know what I mean. Dogs are indeed special little creatures that enrich our daily lives. They instinctively know how to comfort you when you are feeling down, they unknowingly find ways to make you laugh every day and they possess an unconditional love that is usually found with children or immediate family. Dogs are family though; the minute you pick them up and their head rests on your chest…the moment they look at you with that tail wagging, anticipating a special treat…that lick you when you least expect it…or their wildly enthusiastic greeting when you arrive home at the end of a long day.

Special Thanks to friends & family who offered up photos of their special 4-legged friends for this article.

Dogs truly do feel like people at times, almost like a toddler who doesn’t quite comprehend everything you are saying. Dogs listen regardless and try their very best to please. (Repitition provides them with some sort of understanding eventually). Dogs are also fiercely protective and have an uncanny sense when something doesn’t feel quite right or when a stranger approaches unexpectedly. If you are a dog person, you’ll likely concur that this seems to all be second nature to them.

There is also an unspoken language between dog owners. That common bond of knowing you’re in a special club together. The memories that go with having that first pet or that first dog are irreplaceable. If you ask me, France seems to have it spot on, with dogs seemingly allowed everywhere. It would be a dream to be able to take your pooch with you wherever you went (as long as they are well-behaved; kind of like children, and not vicious, kind of like adults).

If Dogs Are People, Too, then maybe that sign for carpools that says “2 Persons or More” applies??!

No?

Well, a girl can dream right?

I totally agree, We had two great little mutts. But sadly they don’t live forever however, They go to thr rainbow bridge, happily waiting for our arrival while romping with the other mutts. So don’t worry we will meet again. Bill.
